Barfi! is an upcoming Indian romantic comedy film directed by Anurag Basu. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz in lead roles. It is expected to be released on 14 September 2012. The title was earlier credited as Khamoshi and Silence, but it was later changed.

Synopsis

Set in the 1970's in a pretty corner of India, Barfi! is the story of three young people who learn that love can neither be defined nor contained by society's norms of normal and abnormal. Barfi, a hearing and speech impaired boy falls in love with Shruti. In spite of her deep affection for Barfii, Shruti gives into societal and parental pressure to marry a 'normal' man and lead a 'normal' life. Many years later their paths cross once again when Barfi, now in love with Jhilmil, is on the run from the police. Barfi is desperately seeking Jhilmil, who has gone missing. Shruti's realization that Jhilmil is mentally-challenged makes her recognize that true love is really blind. Caught in a cat and mouse game, in the search for the girl Barfi loves, Shruti realizes that she is still in love with him. She must now choose between her happiness and his.

Casting

Ranbir Kapoor reportedly plays the role of a deaf-mute person. Priyanka Chopra will play the role of girl with autism. Bhola Raj Sapkota, a Nepali actor, will play Ranbir kapoor's special friend. Ranbir Kapoor is playing a nepali origin in the film.In addition, Tollywood actress Ileana D'Cruz will play the role of the narrator. Basu confirmed that Katrina Kaif was the first choice for the role of the narrator, but she later opted out. The film began shooting on 11 March 2011.

Music

The music and background score of the film is composed by Pritam. The soundtrack album has 7 songs. A song named Ala Barfi! sung by Mohit Chauhan was released as a single track on 7th August 2012. Main kya karoon, a romantic number was released on 11th August 2012 which features Ileana D'Cruz & Ranbir Kapoor. Kilara Shibaki... would be a peppy number from the album that has a mix of Tamil, Hindi and Marathi words in its lyrics. Actress Priyanka Chopra was supposed to sing a track for the film but as per her contract with Universal Music, the clause mentions her not to lend her voice until the her private album releases.

Promotion

A 2.5 minute official trailer was released on YouTube on 2nd July 2012 featuring all the three leading stars that was well received and hit one million views within 10 days.
